Baby Beluga

My son's favorite song that I sing to him is Baby Beluga by Raffi. He will usually stop fussing long enough for me to change his diaper if I start singing it. This was always one of my favorite songs growing up - there was just something about that "little white whale on the go" that I liked, and I guess it just stuck with me. It was a pleasant surprise then, for me to discover the board book version. It is illustrated with colorful, vibrant images and has the whole song written out, which is especially helpful since I could never remember all the words. Of course right now my baby is not interested in sitting down calmly and reading the book together, but at least I can finish the song for him now...and perhaps one day he'll pick up the book and want to read (or sing) it himself. You can also get Wheels on the Bus, Five Little Ducks, and Down by the Bay in board book form.
What about you? What are some of your favorite childhood songs or books?

  2. I love that song and so do the kids, but I can't remember all the words, so they only know the first verse. Where did you find it? I need one

  3. Oh man, I grew up with Raffi! The "Fun Folk Songs" were also a staple in our home. There's this great children's books called "Duck & Goose" and I also adore the Olivia series.

  5. I remember a lot of my favorite stories.

The politically correct Briar Patch series - with all the pals from Splash Mountain.

I entertained myself with countless hours of Book o Mormon/Nephi animated cartoons, which also reminds of our Deseret Book rip-off of Where's Waldo (Lost Nephite or something like that...)

I also remember loving the story books we had that came with a mini-records (Star Wars, etc).

But best of all was The Adventures of Chocolate-Man, a book that Paul made for me by gluing together excerpts from He-Man coloring books (Chocolate Man was a hero I'd fantasize about while I was pooping, and his arch-nemesis was the insidious Snake-Cobra).
