Make It A Cole Family Christmas

I realize that Christmas is still a little ways away, but the message behind this story really is appropriate for all year round. Cole Family Christmas is a beautifully illustrated book about a coal-mining family in the Appalachian Mountains during the 1920's. Based on a true story, the close-knit family of eleven (count them!) encounters an unexpected snowstorm that threatens to spoil their Christmas holiday. Little do they know that this particular Christmas will bring special gifts from the heart that nobody could have foreseen, and be one that they cherish for years to come.

Cole Family Christmas has a warm, inviting quality to it where you actually feel a member of this wonderful family. It takes you back in time where you experience all their love, heartbreak, laughter, and tears. It's written in nine chapters and is meant to be read aloud with your own families - this in turn also encourages us to spend time with our family, and to treasure our own histories.

The book is written by the grandmother/granddaughter team of Jennifer Liu Bryan and Hazel Cole Kendle. Kendle is the last surviving member of the nine Cole children, and together they worked on turning this treasured oral history into a children's book. The tale had been passed down from generation to generation, and now at 88 years old, Kendle is a first-time author, an inspiration to us all!

Visit the Cole Family Christmas website to purchase the book. You can also download the first chapter, read reviews, and much more!

  1. With the economy heading in the toilet, this is a good year to focus on the softer side of Christmas. Thanks for sharing.
