Exergen TemporalScanner - Review and Giveaway

My son has never been seriously ill, which I am grateful for. There have been a few times, however, when he's caught whatever bug that's been going around and has felt hot and feverish. The thermometer I had did not provide much help in recording his temperature. He's extremely squirmy, so trying to hold it under his arm or his tongue was out of the question. And taking a rectal temperature...well, I don't even want to go there. So basically, I was left just assuming that yes, he had a fever but hopefully it wasn't that bad. Not too comforting, if you ask me.

Family Review Network brought my attention to the Exergen TemporalScanner. This is an infrared thermometer designed to measure body temperature by taking a reading from the temporal artery. The infrared sensor registers body temperature to within +0.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Sliding the thermometer straight across the forehead results in a highly accurate reading within two seconds.

I tested this out on my son, the wiggle worm. I simply pressed the "scan" button, slid the thermometer across his forehead and a beep two seconds later indicated that I was done. He squirmed of course, but by the time he wiggled free I already had the reading (which was normal, thank goodness). I really appreciate how simple, gentle, and non invasive the Exergen TemporalScanner is. I feel safe knowing that I have a reliable way of recording body temperature in my possession, that works on adults as well as children. You can read more about this thermometer and where to buy it here.

  5. This is such a good idea. I'm a student nurse who just completed peds clinicals and wow, getting some kids temps is such a tricky issue. You'd think an oral thermometer was a hot poker, and, well, we just won't even get into the OTHER options for taking temp...
