Mother's Day Week - Chicken Soup for the Soul

I've always loved the Chicken Soup for the Soul books - the stories are heartwarming, fulfilling, and full of flavor, just how a great bowl of soup should be.I used to read them a lot in high school, but I hadn't come across any recently until now. I had the opportunity to read two of these fantastic titles: Like Mother, Like Daughter and Moms & Sons. These are both collections of the best 101 stories and poems from Chicken Soup's library and are part of the new "101 Best Stories" series.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Like Mother, Like Daughter is filled with all different kinds of stories, divided into sections such as "The Magical Bond", "Learning from Each Other", "Saying Goodbye" and "Through the Generations." There are some amazing tales written here, by women from all walks of life, each one showing the strength and uniqueness of each individual. As different as these stories are from each other, they all made me think of my own mother and the things that make our relationship "ours." Little things like how she loves to ride rollercoasters with me, the fact that she never minded if I didn't clean my plate completely, and how no matter what question I ask she always seems to have the right answer. I can only hope that I'll become half the mother she is.

The second title, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Moms & Sons was a joy to read because I have a two year old son myself. I especially loved the stories in the first section "Raising Boys" and also in "Gratitude." "Grieving and Peace" was a little hard to read, but the stories in that section were all very touching. Reading this book reminded me of how lucky I am to have my sweet little son, how proud of him I am, and how I'm looking forward to making each moment with him special.

Both of these books are available at Target, and you can get them at a discounted price until May 10th (Mother's Day).
