San Diego Saturday

Welcome to San Diego Saturday! Updated as needed, this column is where I'll provide info about noteworthy events, attractions and fun things to do around town.

For my fellow San Diegans, there are a few freebies and deals coming up next week, so I thought I'd share them with you just in case you didn't know about them already.

First, we have a free piece of chicken at KFC on Monday, April 27th. I'm personally not a big fan of KFC, but this is promoting their Kentucky grilled chicken. I figure it's worth a try for free. You may want to check with your location to make sure they are participating in the promotion.

Taste the Fire at El Pollo Loco for free on Tuesday, April 28th until 8pm. I actually love eating here so I'm really excited about this one. Upon request, you will receive one flame-grilled leg and one flame-grilled thigh, two tortillas (choice of flour or corn) and fresh salsa. Again, you may want to call before you go just to make sure your location is participating.

On Wednesday, April 29th, you can buy a small scoop of ice cream for 31 cents at participating Baskin Robbins'. This is to honor America's firefighters, and at some locations you will be able to donate to local fire charities. This event starts at 5pm and ends at 10pm.

Finally, we have one of my favorite days out of the whole year: Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday, May 2nd. This is the day where participating comic shops around the country give out free comic books to anyone who walks into their store. There's a limit as to how many you can take, but they're usually pretty generous. If you're new to comics, this is great way to start. I know people who don't read comic books because they think it's all Superman and Batman and they're not into that sort of thing. However, there are so many different types of comics out there and this is a wonderful opportunity to see them all. Now, there are certain types of comics that I don't care for, but I am a huge fan of the all age comics - I'm looking forward to picking up Disney/Pixars Cars, Archie, Owly and Friends and Sonic the Hedgehog. Check out this website to see a list of the free comic books being offered and to learn more about Free Comic Book Day.
