Songs Just For Me

We were driving in the car the other day with the music playing, and it struck me that we hardly ever play music for our two year old son. He only ever listens to "our" music, and has never really had a chance to listen to any "kid" songs that he would probably enjoy. He knows If You're Happy and You Know It and Itsy Bitsy Spider and that's about it. I decided to remedy that with a CD of his very own called Songs Just For Me.

Just For Me is a fun young company from Canada that is dedicated to giving kids gifts a personal touch. We all love the sound of our own names and children are no exception. The CD features twelve kid-friendly tunes with your child's name incorporated into every song. There are over 3000 names to choose from. I received a CD for my son for review, and I couldn't wait to play it for him. I was happy with the song selection - his two favorites were there, as well as some great ones from my own childhood, such as Alouette and My Bonnie. What impressed me the most, however, was the new twist on these old standards. Most of the songs have been given brand new lyrics that teach concepts such as safety, transportation, colors, the alphabet, and even new languages. They are also performed in fresh new musical styles, like Latin, Country, Reggae (my personal favorite on the CD) and Rock'n'Roll! You can see a description of the songs here, as well as the lyrics so you can sing along with your child.

This CD is so much fun to listen to. It's lively, upbeat, and it's a refreshing change to the music we usually listen to. The addition of my son's name throughout is icing on the cake. He gets excited every time he hears it!I try to incorporate listening time of his CD to our daily routine now. You can listen to samples of the songs and learn more about the company here.
