San Diego Saturday

Welcome to San Diego Saturday! Updated as needed, this column is where I'll provide info about noteworthy events, attractions and fun things to do around town.

Earlier this week, my son and I went with some friends to Artsy Smartsy, an arts and crafts studio in La Jolla. We had purchased a 3 pack of classes and this was our first class. We had a wonderful time! The studio is just the right size for kids ages 2 to 6 and is filled with so many fun, crafty things! In our class we got to do painting, which the teacher said she usually doesn't do with two year olds. Lucky us! Here's what we did:

The beginnings of a masterpiece

He stayed with his painting the whole time and made careful, calculated brush strokes

While he was painting, he started saying "fish, fish!" When I took a closer look, I realized that he had actually painted a fish of sorts.

The finished product - I did help him with the orange and black strokes. He would say "orange! black!" and then point to where he wanted me to paint.

There was an additional craft done during the class involving a lollipop and some tissue paper to make a ghost, but he was way too into his painting to even care. If you're looking for something creative and fun to do with your child, I definitely recommend you check out Artsy Smartsy!
