San Diego Saturday

Welcome to San Diego Saturday! Updated as needed, this column is where I'll provide info about noteworthy events, attractions and fun things to do around town.

Last weekend Bean, Hubby and I headed up to Mira Mesa. We do this every now and again for multiple reasons, namely Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits, Babies "R" Us, and Bobalicious! This time however, we went to experience Monster Manor's Lite Frite, a kid friendly (and the only one I know about) haunted attraction. I was pretty stoked.

Here's the cool part: this is an all volunteer Halloween attraction. It's housed under a spooky 4000 square foot tent and all the profits go to various charities and non profit organizations. Each year the theme changes, and this year we got to experience Scooby-Doo and the Mystery of the Backlot Phantom.

A friendly guide led our group and explained to the kids that they were junior detectives and they had to help solve the mystery. Each room was an impressively decorated set that corresponded perfectly with the movie backlot theme. Animated actors helped moved the plot along and even gave out treats to put in the Halloween bags that were handed out at the start of the tour. The whole thing took around ten minutes and when it was over Bean said he wanted to do it again. He settled for eating his candy in the car. I do think the attraction is best for younger kids - for my three year old it was just perfect. If you're up for something a little more scary though, you can come back later in the evening for the nighttime "Ghastley Studios" haunt designed for the older set.

Catch Lite Frite today and tomorrow from 12pm to 4pm. It's located at 8235 Mira Mesa Blvd. at the corner of Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa Blvd. in the Target Shopping Center. Happy Halloween!
