San Diego Saturday

Welcome to San Diego Saturday! Updated as needed, this column is where I'll provide info about noteworthy events, attractions and fun things to do around town.

This is a postcard that I received a couple of weeks ago, inviting me to the Grand Opening of a brand new Chinese bilingual preschool in Kearny Mesa. Even though I had already signed Bean up for preschool, I wanted to go because for Kindergarten I'm planning on sending him to the Mandarin immersion school in our area. Plus, I'm partial to all things Asian being half Chinese and all.

I really didn't know what to expect, but I was absolutely floored by how fabulous it was! There were lion dancers, free food, and we were free to explore whatever we wanted. And boy, was there a lot to explore. Basically it's a 10,400 square foot facility with common room, huge kitchen and surrounding individual rooms. The rooms include two traditional classrooms, a computer room, music room, language room, fitness room, storybook room, art room and the most amazing outdoor play area I've ever seen. The attention to detail was mind boggling and reminded me a lot of Disneyland. Since I don't think I can adequately describe how incredible it was with words, allow me to let the pictures do the talking:

All this, plus they get to learn the Chinese language and culture. I also loved how every room had a play kitchen, a sink and adjacent bathroom. Upon leaving, I felt a twinge of envy for the kids who will be attending this preschool. Even though my son had a blast, I know he'll be just as happy at his own preschool. Kids don't seem to care how new and fancy something is - they're able to learn and have fun in any situation. Isn't that what makes them great? If you live in Kearny Mesa though (and even if you don't), I highly encourage you to check it out!

The Chinese Bilingual Preschool is located at 5075 Ruffin Road.
