Mother's Day Week - It's All About the Food

In our home we don't watch TV. Sure, we've got tons of movies that we pop in quite frequently, but not a single television channel. This isn't because we don't like to sit down and watch a good show once in a while because we do. In fact, when we stay at hotels, we consider the TV to be a luxury item and love to stay in bed all night and watch it. At home though, we can't justify paying for cable because I know that for me, I would probably end up only watching one channel: Food Network.

I love the Food Network. I'm not that great of a cook, but I find all the shows on this channel inspiring. It's fascinating to watch them chop with ease, and have delicious looking meal in thirty minutes or less. If I could play the Food Network 24/7, I would. This, however leads us to the next best thing - twenty Food Network DVD's are now available at Target across the country. Titles offered include something for everyone, plus Food Network shows never-before-on-DVD like Dinner: Impossible and Giada At Home. There are also brand new DVDs from returning classics like Good Eats and Ace of Cakes.  I had the opportunity to watch two of these DVD's - Mother's Day and Giada at Home - Season One.

These were a delight to watch, as all three women, Ina Garten, Paula Deen and Giada De Laurentiis are fantastic chefs who bring a unique, personal flair to the table. I enjoyed Ina Garten's casual style, and interesting twists on comfort food such as clam chowder. Paula Deen's warm personality made me feel right at home. And Giada's recipes had a sophisticated take on California-style foods that didn't look too difficult to execute. It was also fun to see her cooking out of her own kitchen at home. Needless to say, I watched these DVD's nonstop and will continue to do so until I can get my hands on more. Here's the full list of titles available at Target:

  1. Ha ha I know exactly what you mean about TV and the foodnetwork! I finally ended up cable when my parents came to visit and decided to keep it for the trial period. I haven't explored all the channels yet (only have basic basic cable too!) But while sick I found I have the food network!

I love the challenge show, especially the cake challenge shows. I can't believe they make all that crazy stuff in 8 hrs! Of course this mean I don't really get anything useful but meh I am more of a baker than a cook anyway.

If you get a chance check out the "throw down with Bobby Flay" He is awesome...not bad to look at either! :) Oh and the iron chef. I am sure you can download that show or stream it online.
