The free calendar that I had requested from Oriental Trading Company arrived yesterday. I was pleased to see that it contained lots of money saving offers, but what really caught my eye was the inclusion of weird and wacky holidays alongside the "regular" ones. For example, have you ever celebrated Measure Your Feet Day? Or how about Be Bald And Free Day? Strange.
This got me thinking: where do all these holidays come from? According to this site, anyone can apply to have a certain day become official. Then I thought about how cool it would be to actually celebrate the ones that appeal to me and make them into family traditions. How fun would it be to celebrate Donut Day by going to all the donut shops around town? Or take it easy on No Housework Day? I would love to celebrate Fly A Kite Day, or simply smile at someone on Share A Smile Day. I have a feeling this calendar is going to come in handy, and not for the reasons I originally thought.
How about you? Do you celebrate any wacky holidays?
How fun! I wonder if there is a website that lists all those! We could be celebrating something every day! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate anything different than the usual, but I noticed a blog posted about a National popcorn day in January and I could definitely get into that one! :-)
Alright, so I did a search and I found this site:

We could be celebrating at least 4 things a day! LOL!
How fun and interesting..
ReplyDeleteI agree No Housework Day sounds like a great holiday to me.....LOL
I like any chance to celebrate! Solstices, Equinoxes, any other special days are welcome!
ReplyDeleteEvery day for me is no housework day !
