When I had my baby, people said to be prepared for a big change in lifestyle. No more eating out at fancy restaurants, no more free time, and no more going to the movies whenever we want. And I suppose all of that is true, although our movie experience may have become even better than it was before. Sure, every now and again we like to go to the movies "sans kid", and for those instances we get a babysitter. And we have to make sure we don't go too late. It works out fine, but for those times when we just don't feel like having to get a babysitter, we go to the drive-in.
We are lucky because in San Diego we have two drive-in movie theaters to choose from. The movies always start around 8pm which is when our son goes to bed. This means that he usually falls asleep in the car on the drive over and stays asleep! It's genius. We get to enjoy TWO movies for the price of one, we don't have to get a babysitter and our sweet son sleeps through the whole thing. And yes, there have been times when he hasn't fallen asleep on the drive over but luckily he watched the movie "Up" without a peep. He loved it. And then there's been a time or two when he's woken up in the middle of the movie and started crying. This happened during "Avatar" and I don't blame him one bit - I felt like crying too. An hour in we left and went to see "The Blind Side" which was playing on the other screen. A much better movie, and nobody was bothered by his crying except for us (he stopped as soon as we took him away from Avatar). Tonight we will be seeing "How To Train Your Dragon" at the Drive-In. I'm super excited. "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" is playing afterwards and we haven't decided if we're going to stay for that one or not. I suppose if we stayed and it was bad though, we could just drive away. Simple as that.
Your turn: Does your city have a drive-in theater? Do you ever go to the drive-in with your baby or toddler?
I haven't been to a driven for 20 years! It's a totally cool way to spend a family nite! I'm stopping by from Sits
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a drive in. I don't think there are any around here. They look like such fun, and it sounds like something Levi would be crazy about.
ReplyDeleteWe use to go there once in awhile. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteWe try to make it once or twice every summer. Ours is about 20 minutes away. It has the same deal as your's with 2 movies for the price of 1 and my kiddos are still young enough that they're free! Big bonus! ;-) I can't wait to go again-it won't be opening up for a couple months yet, though.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to one. I don't think it would work in NYC (unless you could take a cab and that would get expensive).
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a drive-in close! I haven't been for almost 10 years. Crazy. I hope you guys have fun!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm learning more and more about the city I live in because of you! I didn't even know there were drive in theaters around! I'd love to try one out this summer
ReplyDeleteI'm just stopping by again to let you know that I have something for you at my blog:

Our city does have a drive-in, but it's kind of "ghetto" and unsafe. Needless to say, we haven't taken our family there. ;)
