Conscientious

I recently watched a video on MSN about factors that may contribute to living a long life. The discoveries are a result of an eight year study, and are recorded in the book The Longevity Project. Here's a link to an article on the same topic, if anyone is interested. Some interesting points that I learned from the video (and I'm remembering these off the top of my head, so I apologize if they're not completely accurate) include:

1. It's okay to worry a little. Worrying will not make you die sooner. This is great news for me, as I'm kind of what you call a worrywort.

2. This one applied only to men, but men who stay married to the same person are likely to live longer.

3. The phrase "Don't work too hard" isn't really true. In fact, hard workers are likely to live a longer life.

4. Don't be overly happy. People that are too happy are prone to make rash, spur of the moment decisions, thereby making early death more likely.

5. In summary, it comes down to one word: CONSCIENTIOUS, which means to be meticulous, careful and precise.

With that being said, does this look like someone who will grow up to be conscientious? Only time will tell.

  2. Marissa, thanks for helping me to find your blog by visiting mine. I was overwhelmed by BBCSD and will be taking some time to get to everyone else's blogs. I love the pic- that must be your son? Love the glasses, they remind me of Elton John. As for the nose pick, he'll no doubt defend it one day as "a scratch, not a pick" a la Jerry Seinfeld. Guess I had better hop on over to Twitter and make sure I am following you =)

  7. I love this post! Especially about not being too happy, I am so prone to making rash decisions...which is why I have a new kitten sitting beside me...come to think of it, she tried to trip me this morning while I was walking down the stairs.

Maybe she'll be the death of me??
